Mushrooms
Mushrooms are neither plant or animal but belong to their own kingdom. the kingdom of Fungi. Fungi lacks chlorophyll and cannot produce their own food but must obtain nutrients through a process of external digestion absorption. Fungi form a mutually beneficial relationship between themselves and the roots of living trees or other types of host plants. The fungal partner provides the host plant with water and nutrients, including phosphorus and nitrogen. In turn the host plant provides the fungal partner with nutrients such as carbohydrates and vitamins which are essential for its growth. A mushroom is the fruiting body that arises in order to distribute the spores of the fungi.
